Makoto Shinkai’s latest feature film is able to surpass the collection acquired through Your Name just three days after its release in cinemas in Japan.
Suzume no Tojimari, the new animated film directed and written by Makoto Shinkai, who is the director behind the success of Your Name, has recently opened in theaters in Japan.
The plot follows the tale of Suzume 17, a 17-year old female who lives within the peaceful Kyushu town. Kyushu till one particular day all changes when she encounters an unknown boy that is seeking “a entrance”.
Along with Suzume, Suzume will have to traverse Japan and close a string of doors that have been causing terrible disasters. Both will be required to defend the nation from the disasters lurking in the shadows behind the doors.

Shinkai is back to serve as the director and writer of Suzume no Tojimari, while Masayoshi Tanaka is responsible for the characters who’s work we witnessed as part of Your Name.
The voice actors from Suzume no Tojimari features the debut of the seiyuu Nanoka Hara lending her voice to the main character. She is joined by Saito Ito (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! ), Shota Sometani (Belle), Hokuto Matsumura (live-action xxxHOLiC) and Kana Hanazawa (Magia Record Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story).
