Disney is working on a fresh The Princess Diaries movie. This is what we know

Disney announced that they are making an upcoming The Princess Diaries movie, nearly 18 years after its first release. Its third film is in the in the early stages of development an official source for the project confirmed to E! News.

The exact date at which the fans can experience the story that was developed inside the Kingdom of Genovia isn’t confirmed yet.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Aadrita Mukerji who is the screenwriter of Supergirl is currently writing the script for the third episode of The Princess Diaries.

According to the sources interview by E! News, this movie could be an extension from the two films that were released between 2001 and 2004 not an update. So, Princess Mia Thermopolis is expected to be portrayed once more in the film by Anne Hathaway.

The film’s opening was Hathaway’s debut film as a shy California-based American teenager who learns that she is the heir to the throne in the kingdom of Genovia following the death her father. She is forced to decide whether she wants to be the heir or go on in her regular life.

Hathaway stated in the year 2019 that she was in desire to be her princess from Genovia so long as it’s a good production.

“We aren’t going to do it until it’s perfect, since we love the idea just as the way you do. We value it as much like it’s to you. And we’re not willing to launch something until it’s done. We’re trying to make it happen,” he said at the time.

There are no casting news for the upcoming third film have been made public to date. In the two previous Disney movies, Anne has formed a group of Julie Andrews, Heather Matarazzo, Mandy Moore, Erik von Detten, Hector Elizondo and Sandra Oh.

The two films, both inspired by Meg Cabot’s novel that has the same title holds a special place in the heart of Hathaway. On the 29th of July 2021, which was day 20 of debut of the first film Hathaway posted a collage of images on her Instagram in homage for the tale of princess Mia Thermopolis.
